Course Overview
This programme aims to meet the complex needs of the business sector, by providing appropriately trained, qualified and certified staff at supervisory levels with the requisite knowledge and understanding of organisations from a variety of sectors. You will develop the skills and knowledge to allow you to work across various functions of a business. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to demonstrate innovative thinking coupled with cognitive and intellectual competencies specific to business management and ethical practice.

Business Management is offered by New College Durham in partnership with CECOS. Students can choose from flexible class schedules such as Weekday, Evening, allowing them to balance education with other commitments. The programme is offered in Full Time study modes, ensuring accessibility for learners. It supports various academic pathways, including FdA levels, making it suitable for a wide range of students seeking professional or academic advancement. Academic Interview
Once we have submitted your application for the course of your choice, a member of CECOS admissions staff will check it to make sure it has been fully completed and that you are eligible to enrol in the course.
In the event that your application meets the entry criteria, you will receive an invitation to a web interview with a member of CECOS' academic team. These academic interviews typically last around 30 minutes and are used to evaluate the following:
- Your educational and/or professional history
- Your knowledge of and readiness for the course
- Your knowledge of the topic, the industry, and the relevant careers
They conduct interviews with every applicant who satisfies their entry requirements as part of their quality process.
If you are applying through the Standard Entry route (Academic Achievement), the interviewer will want to ask you about your educational background and how the course will help you further your professional or career progression.
English Language Requirements
- You must pass CECOS' English language screening test if you lack certification that shows you have the necessary level of English ability.
- You will be evaluated under supervision on your reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities.
- You might need to take pre-sessional lessons and take a final English exam in order to enrol in chosen course.
- You will be excluded from this step if you have a recognised English qualification.
- It takes about 90 minutes to finish the basic English evaluation.
Entry Requirements
Standard entry criteria:
- Three GCSEs at a minimum of grade C (4), including maths and English (or Level 2 equivalent)
- Minimum of 32 UCAS Tariff Points (80 UCAS on previous tariff)
- Level 3 Accredited Business Qualification
- An Access to Higher Education course (which includes a business related programme)
- IELTS score of 5.5
Additional entry criteria: You are still welcome to apply even if you do not possess the standard entry qualifications.
Non-standard entry criteria includes the following:
- Qualifications in non-business management-related areas at Level 3.
- No Level 3 qualifications but evidence of employer references that can support an application with any relevant working experience.
- A personal statement.
- A one-to-one interview.
- Maths and English skills will be assessed through the application process.
