Course Overview
This course introduces students to creative practice, focusing on theoretical, practical, and technical components. In early stages, students develop essential skills for academic success and personal growth, emphasizing reflection and technical skills like visual communication. As they progress, they engage with methodologies, enhancing understanding of processes and fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. Later units emphasize specialization and independent learning, encouraging self-initiated projects and professional outcomes. Throughout, students refine analytical, academic writing, and project management skills, promoting a holistic approach to creative practice.
Class Schedule: 2 days on campus
BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Foundation Year is offered by Arts University Plymouth in partnership with VCAD. Students can choose from flexible class schedules such as Weekday, allowing them to balance education with other commitments. The programme is offered in Full Time study modes, ensuring accessibility for learners. It supports various academic pathways, including Bachelors levels, making it suitable for a wide range of students seeking professional or academic advancement. Flexible Study Modes
To support students in balancing their work, life, and academic commitments, we offer two distinct study pathways:
Weekday Mode:
6 hours on-campus learning (1 day) + 6 hours independent self-study (any day).
Weekday/Weekend Mode:
2 days on campus: Friday (3 hours) + Saturday OR Sunday (3 hours) + 6 hours independent self-study during the weekday.
English Language Requirement
To meet the demanding academic content of a UK degree, all applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency at the B2 level or above of the Common European Framework (CEFR).
A wide range of academic English qualifications and English tests are accepted as evidence of applicant’s English language ability, which include:
- GCSE English Language grade 4/C or above
- IELTS 5.5 overall
- Level 2 Functional Skills Qualification in English
- VCAD Internal English Assessment
Entry Requirements
Standard Academic Route
72 UCAS tariff points (or above) or 120 Credit Ofqual qualification at Level 3 or 60 Credit Ofqual qualification at Level 3
Non-Standard Route
- For applicants aged 21 and above, who may not meet the standard entry requirements, could be considered for admissions if they possess at least 2 years of relevant work experience in the UK (a professional CV is required). This experience should showcase transferable skills and knowledge necessary for entry onto the course.
- For applicants aged under 21, who may not meet the standard entry requirements, could be considered for admission if they possess a Level 2 qualification (e.g. GCSEs, or equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the UK demonstrating the necessary transferable skills and knowledge for entry onto the course.
