This foundation year degree will also enable you to develop a range of key transferable employability skills, including written and verbal communication skills, IT skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team, research and data analysis skills, and the ability to provide support and guidance. 

Distinctive Features of the Programme:

  • The BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Foundation year will provide you with the opportunity to develop academic skills and knowledge. The foundation year is based upon building a variety of academic / research skills through the examination of key social issues, which have an impact upon the health and wellbeing of individuals. The second year is aimed at giving increased confidence, providing a strong academic pathway, which will prepare you for the health and social care workplace or further study in a related academic or professional area. The third year will include a placement module, which will allow you to spend time in practice. This is aimed at practical development, with generic competencies around health and social care combined with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the workplace, in terms of its function and structure.
  • You will be required to keep a written reflective log throughout your placement; you will be supported by your tutor, who will help you to demonstrate the learning you have gained from the practical experience. Furthermore this module will be linked to an employability module, which will provide the opportunity to look at transferable skills and career planning, helping you to consider your personal and professional development throughout the programme.
  • The final year of the degree will allow you to increase your knowledge in specific areas of health and social care and which might be of interest to you. The selection of modules which will be offered will include: Children and Families, Mental Health and Safeguarding. This is aimed at giving you an insight into areas which you may wish to specialise in and develop greater knowledge and understanding. There will be a module of study which examines the issue of vulnerability in relation to those who use health and social care services. The importance of compassionate person centred care will be considered throughout the programme.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care with Foundation Year is offered by University of Greater Manchester in partnership with RCL. Students can choose from flexible class schedules such as Weekday, Weekend, Evening, Online, allowing them to balance education with other commitments. The programme is offered in Full Time study modes, ensuring accessibility for learners. It supports various academic pathways, including Bachelors levels, making it suitable for a wide range of students seeking professional or academic advancement.   • Minimum of 32 UCAS points from Level 3 qualifications
  • Level 3 Certificate/Diploma (Pass)
  • UK ENIC (formerly UK NARIC) confirmed Level 3 equivalent
