Our four-year BEng (Hons) in Software Engineering with Foundation Year course offers you the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this diverse field of software systems.

This programme tasks you with the building and maintenance of software systems and other computer-based solutions. By examining all elements of the process – from initial understanding of the problem, through to analysis, design and development, to testing, documentation and maintenance – this degree offers you a focused yet fully rounded education.

You will explore the underlying principles of software engineering, while gaining knowledge and practical experience of the latest technologies. You will be encouraged to appreciate both the technical and human aspects involved in areas such as software systems and design, systems analysis, programming, database specification and design, and system security.

Distinctive Features of the Programme:

  • A Foundation Year provides you with a firm grounding in academic and technical skills
  • The Software Engineering programme has been designed collaboratively working with industrial partners to ensure that students study a comprehensive program of relevant industrial topics. Many of the graduates find successful careers in this lucrative area of employment.
  • The success of our graduates is directly related to the practical aspects covered in the course laboratory work.
  • Coursework throughout the course utilises realistic scenarios intended to prepare students for their career after university. This applies both to the technical areas studied, but also the output required from the student such as technical proposals or reports to management
  • Much of the coursework undertaken by students is project based and often involves group working. The ability to work successfully and productively in teams is an essential element of modern software engineering.
  • Internationalisation: Software Engineering and application development is by virtue an international business and therefore isn’t bound by geographical area. The course covers such issues as culture, socialisation, localisation and international computer and communications standards.
  • Environmental Sustainability: All our material is available electronically online (Moodle) and therefore avoids the use of consumables such as paper. Our labs are equipped with modern and efficient hardware and software management system. (e.g: PowerMan)

BEng (Hons) Software Engineering with Foundation Year is offered by University of Greater Manchester in partnership with RCL. Students can choose from flexible class schedules such as Weekday, allowing them to balance education with other commitments. The programme is offered in Full Time study modes, ensuring accessibility for learners. It supports various academic pathways, including Bachelors levels, making it suitable for a wide range of students seeking professional or academic advancement. This course is available across key study locations including London. To help you navigate, direct Google Maps links are provided for each location.
